Is your Christianity real or fake? Are you plastering over the cracks and covering up the hole in your soul? Have you found Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, are you saved, sanctified and satisfied or just resting in faith in sacraments and religious observance? Romans chapter 2, bible teaching.
Dr J Stewart Gillespie
The first 3 chapters of Romans describe 4 very different individuals: the rotten sinner, the self righteous sinner, the religious sinner and the repentant and redeemed sinner! It is the third of these in Romans chapter 2 which poses the biggest problem. The religious man is teh most like the genuine believer and yet he is not born again and lacks an inner work of salvation and saving grace in his soul. Romans chapter 2 give us 3 key signs of a sick soul; a wrong attitude to self, to sin and to the sinner.
Dr J Stewart Gillespie Bible teaching in Romans
The story of man's relationship with God is one fraught with denial, defence and hiding! From Adam to Elijah and Jonah and beyond, man's response to God has been one of hiding based on fear and denial. In Romans chapter 2, man hides from God by excuses, by using a misunderstanding of God, hardness of heart and arguments over the bible. Don't hide from God!

Romans is the key book in the New Testament on the Gospel! God can save you for ever (Hebrews 7) and He is able to save the chief of sinners! In Romans chapter 2 we discover that there is one thing God cannot save you from! God cannot save you from the consequences of rejecting God! In Romans chapter 2 we have the self righteous sinner, the man who wrestles with God.
