The first 3 chapters of Romans describe 4 very different individuals: the rotten sinner, the self righteous sinner, the religious sinner and the repentant and redeemed sinner! It is the third of these in Romans chapter 2 which poses the biggest problem. The religious man is teh most like the genuine believer and yet he is not born again and lacks an inner work of salvation and saving grace in his soul. Romans chapter 2 give us 3 key signs of a sick soul; a wrong attitude to self, to sin and to the sinner.
