Loved Lost and Longed For - The Lost Sheep and Prodigal Son - Luke chp 15 - JS Gillespie

The three fold parables of the lost sheep, lost coin and prodigal son powerfully present the dual picture of humanity lost in darkness, and despair, distant from God, along with the picture of a Saviour seeking, persistanly searching “until” He finds that lost soul and then bringing them home. We are more lost than we know and more loved than we could ever imagine.

Luke chapter 15

What's holding you Back? Come out from behind the Fig Leaves! Mark chp 10 - JS Gillespie

A rich young man rushed to find the Lord Jesus to present his self centred plan of salvation. He feels he is good enough for God and is convinced that he has kept the commandments of God all of his life. He rests in self and possessions for heaven. Instead of being a blessing his self satsfaction and complacency is a burden and he goes away from Christ disappointed, the first person to go away disappointed in Mark's gospel so far! So often we find refuge in something other than the safety and certainty of Christ and refuse to let go of what it is we are determined to trust in other than Christ. Adam's first reaction after his fall was to seek refuge in the fig leaves. Many of us still are a lot like Adam.
