A Fresh Glimpse of Jesus - Mark chapter 9 - JS Gillespie

Mark chapter 9 and the mount of transfiguration.

The mount of transfiguration gives us a fresh glimpse of who the Lord Jesus is. It is here we are presented with one who is more than a prophet, of whom the law and the prophets looked forward to. We see Jesus in His purity and perfection, in His preeminence, in His Person and His purpose as Saviour. Dr J Stewart Gillespie

A Soul worth Saving - Mark chapter 7 - JS Gillespie

Mark chapter 7 verses 24 to 30 record the encounter if a Syrophencian woman with the Lord Jesus at the border of Tyre and Sidon. This woman grasps the opportunity to meet Christ, an opportunity which was quickly to pass. Like blind Bartimaeus, the two blind men at Jericho, Zacchaeus, the woman with the issue of blood and the blind man at the temple in John chpater 9, the passing Jesus of Nazareth was an opportunity to encounter God and find salvation, a once in a lifetime opportunity not to be missed. In humility she comes to Jesus on behalf of her demon possessed daughter seeking just a few crumbs from the masters table. This woman appreciated that it was not her great grasp of a small God that would save and deliver but rather her small, weak grasp of a great God. God does the saving we come in faith.

I don't know what I'm looking for but I will know when I find it! Jesus and the feeding of the 5000 - JS Gillespie

Thousands flock to the Lord Jesus in Mark chapter 6. Whilst this is teh chapter in which we read of the miraculous feeding of the 5000 with 5 loaves and two fishes, yet the emphasis in this section is not on the feeding but on the feeder! The thousands who flock to the desert, find Christ as the supreme draw and attraction and nothing else! As sheep without a shepherd, it would seem that whilst they were drawn to Christ they hardly knew what it was they were looking for! Once they found that peace, meaning, satisfaction and salvation in Jesus then they would know they had found it! In Mark chapter 6 we have Jesus as Saviour, as Shepherd and as Satisfier as He alone feeds and meets the needs of the 5000.

God's Great Invitation - Matthew chapter 22 - Iain Jamieson

Matthew chapter 22 describes God's Great Invitation still open to you and I today. We see also the consequences of rejecting that invitation. Upon our response to that invitation hangs our destiny, heaven or hell, to be saved or to be lost.

Drawn to Heaven Dragged to Hell - The Man of the Gadarenes - Mark chapter 5 - JS Gillespie

From the mountain tops to the depths of the grave the man of the gaderenes demon possessed life swung widely between madness and despair. Out of control, out of his mind and out of the city he was left under the the repressive shadow of death and the grave to await his inevitable Satan determined fate. Self harming, self destructive, spiritually chained and ensnared by devils, the worlds only offering was for further chains, physical shackles to add to his spiritual shackles, burden upon burden! Only Christ could and would set him free from the sin and suffering and Satan who had entrapped him. Faith drew him to Christ and to heaven, fear dragged him to hell. The power of the Son of God was all sufficient and His salvation, liberating and life changing.

The parable of the sower and the seeds from Mark chapter 4. The 4 types of ground upon which the seed of the gospel falls are explained in this parable of the Lord Jesus. We note in the parable the person of Jesus Christ, the message of Sin and Salvation and the spiritual battle which we all face especially when a soul comes into contact with the saving power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Jesus who Cares for You - Mark chp 3 vs 1 to 6

Mark chapter 3 and the healing of the man with the withered hand introduces us to the God who meets us in our weakness, whilst we were yet without strength and who really cares for us. Whilst others may simply be ready to mock and drag us down, He is the Saviour who is able to save for ever all who come to Him by faith.

The Divine Magnetism of Jesus, because Jesus is Different! Mark chapter 2 - JS Gillespie

In Capernaum, in Mark chapter 2 the news leaks out, Jesus is here! The crowds gather and the house cannot contain all who are drawn to Jesus. There was an emptiness deep in mans soul since we left God in Eden. Since that separation this world has been a cold, cruel place of death, disaster, disease and disappointment. Here in Mark chapter 2 God has come home! God is near in Jesus Christ. It is here we see that it is faith which connects us to the power of Jesus Christ. Are we searching for God? Are we empty and alone? Are we worried about death and the after life! God's plan for our salvation is fulfilled in His Son Jesus. Gospel message from Mark chapter 2, the healing of the man with a palsy, carried by four friends.

Mark chapter 1 - Don't Leave Jesus in the Synagogue!

Mark chapter 1 verses 29 to 34 details the miracle of the raising up of Peter's mother in law. We consider the movement of the Lord Jesus from Heaven, to the Synagogue, to the home and to her heart. We notice too that the sun sets on the old life and a new way of life is now brought in. We see the challenge to a personal living relationship with Jesus Christ! Don't leave Him in the synagogue! Famous last Words - Luke chapter 23 - Peter Hinshelwood

The last words of the thief on the Cross from Luke chapter 23 have much to teach us concerning God's way and plan of salvation. Here was a man who could offer nothing to God, who had no opportunity to correct past wrongs nor to try harder for a better tomorrow. The thief on the cross lacked even the opportunity of baptism and church membership and yet for him the guarantee was given; 'this day shall you be with me in paradise.' God's plan of salvation is by Grace alone, through faith alone and in Christ alone. A gospel message preached at Bridgend Gospel Hall, New Cumnock by Mr Peter Hinshelwood.
