Hebrews Chapter 3 verse 1: 'On the Edge of Destiny – The Apostolic Ministry of Christ'

“Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;” (Hebrews chapter 3 verse 1)

This verse concludes the thought begun previously: that the Christian has been delivered from the weakness of the flesh:

Heb 2:14  “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;”

Hebrews chapter 2 verse 5 - Making the Connection with the World to Come - JS Gillespie

In the exposition of Psalm 8 by the writer to the Hebrews, certain assumptions are made:

It is the Inspired Word of God: thus when the the world doesn’t match up to the Word, the Word is right and the world is wrong

The Bible means what it says: allegorising away the clear statements of scripture is not an honest way to deal with the Word of God

Revelation is progressive; not contradictory, not superseded but added to, becoming clearer over time (2:7,9)

The full meaning of scripture may not have been…

Hebrews chapter 2 vs 1 to 4 - How Shall we Escape - JS Gillespie

If you were to be asked tonight by an unsaved friend : ‘What is salvation?’ what would you say?

I would tell them that salvation is the work of God in a human life when:

I turn from my sin
Place my faith in Jesus Christ
Depend only on Christ and His finished work at Calvary for my salvation
God forgives my sin
He cleans me of my old sin
Gives me a new and right relationship with Him
His Word becomes living and real
He places His Holy Spirit in me
My conscience becomes alert and energised
He gives me the…

Hebrews chapter 1 verses 10 to 12 - Jesus - Who is He? - JS Gillespie

Consider eternity; what does that mean?

One of those words that we use and we don't really have a clue what it means!

Consider an approximation 'foreverness'

Consider it not as sometimes it is considered to be as a line, extending back and forward with such strange marks as: eternity, past, present, future – descriptions best avoided for they make no sense.

Consider eternity not as a line but as a vast ocean, a vast calm ocean, extending not as a line but in 360 degrees and 3 dimensions.

In that ocean…

Hebrews chapter 1 vs 4 to 14 - When Angels Whisper - J Stewart Gillespie

'Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.'(Heb 1:4)

13 X angels are mentioned in Hebrews

Interesting that they are spoken of this frequently

Interesting that they are spoken of with this frequency:

Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. (Heb 1:4)

For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be…

Hebrews Chp 1 vs 1 to 3 - What is God Like - JS Gillespie

‘What is God Like?’

There are some heavy and difficult things in Hebrews
There are also some simple, basic or maybe we should say ‘fundamental’ truths in Hebrews
We are not going to skip them
One of the most fundamental questions Hebrews answers is the question:

‘What is God like?’
The answer to this question is:

●    Fundamental to how we live our life
●    Fundamental to how we die
●    Fundamental to how we enjoy or endure eternity

What is God like?
The answer to this question will…
